Intermediate Construction Award (ICA)
Wood Occupations - Site Carpentry
ICA'S are aimed at people who are not at this moment working in the construction industry or people wishing to change trades, either within the construction industry or not. All assessments and training are completed within training establishments. All ICA units are related to their equivalent NVQ unit, and will tell you what extra assessment is needed to gain the related NVQ unit once working on site. To achieve this award you must also pass an independent Health & Safety test and a separate knowledge test (knowledge test externally set and marked by City & Guilds on set dates throughout the year).
Units you must complete to achieve this award are as follows:-
ICA 100 Store materials & equipment
ICA 101 Erect & dismantle basic working platforms
ICA 102 Work efficiently
ICA 107 First fixing before plasterwork
ICA 108 Second fixing after plasterwork
ICA 109 Carcassing for floors and roofs
ICA 110 Use of portable power tools
Duration: 6 weeks - flexible attendance available

NVQ - Site Carpentry
A National Vocational Qualification is a measure of an individual's capability to carry out a range of work to the performance criteria that their industry has agreed.
These courses are for people whose employers release them for training on a day release basis. Apprentices and adults who wish to improve their skills under the government's 'Train to Gain' initiative can take this course.
NVQ Level 1
The mandatory units are:-
Unit VR 01 Conform to General Workplace Safety
Unit VR 03 Move and Handle Resources
Unit VR 05 Install Frames and Linings
Unit VR 06 Install Side Hung Doors
Unit VR 07 Install Door Ironmongery
Unit VR 08 Install Internal Mouldings
NVQ Level 2
Mandatory units:
Unit VR 01 Conform to General Workplace Safety
Unit VR 02 Conform to Efficient Work Practices
Unit VR 03 Move and Handle Resources
And then you must choose THREE of the following optional units:
Optional units:
Unit VR 09 Install First Fixing Components
Unit VR 10 Install Second Fixing Components
Unit VR 11 Erect Structural Carcassing Components
Unit VR 12 Maintain Non-structural Carpentry Work
Unit VR 13 Set Up and Use Circular Saws
